Believing that Jesus is the Son of God

There are numerous answers to what it means to be a Christian, but the answer that must be listed as number one, is believing that Jesus is God. The fear that drove the religious leaders to get rid of Jesus centered on the belief that Jesus claimed to be God’s son. Plus, his rock star status among the peasant Jews threatened their status not only among their lowly flock, but among the Roman leaders, as well. Saul was zealous about condemning these “Jesus believers” because he believed that Jesus was a blasphemer and that his disciples were trying to convince people that a man who had been condemned to die on a cross, and therefore cursed by God, would come back to life. This was absurd! Impossible! He believed they were lying and that the spread of that lie needed to be stopped no matter what it took. Last school year our dancers explored the story of what possibly could have taken place during the three days Saul spent with Jesus. For three days, though he was blind to the world around him, the eyes of his heart saw the truth about Jesus. When Jesus revealed Himself as the Son of God, He called Saul out of the darkness and into the light, and gave him a new name, Paul, and a new purpose. Paul exemplifies the process that every person who become a Christian must go through.
During Bible Break this past week, we illustrated, through dance, the places in God’s Word where Jesus is specifically called the Son of God. I used a light bulb as a way of illustrating what happens when you go from darkness to light. Believing is like a light bulb that turns on inside your spirit. Everyone starts off in the dark when it comes to believing that Jesus is the Son of God. But when you do believe, a light goes on inside your spirit and you begin to see His majesty and divinity (his goodness, supreme excellence, and almightiness).
Family Time
Enjoy bringing these verses and the circumstances that led to them alive as you and your kids read them aloud or act them out. In each situation, the light bulb of revelation shines, and some people “get it” and some people don’t.
The song, Jesus, Son of God by Chris Tomlin is a great song to worship with as a family.
